World War II Gin Drinkers Line Historical Reenactment Tour
Date: 09/10/2026
On 9 October 2026, members of the Chinese History Club and History Club visited Shing Mun Redoubt as part of an interactive heritage learning programme. Through a guided tour and historical reenactment, students explored the strategic role of the Gin Drinkers Line in Hong Kong’s defence during the 1941 Battle of Hong Kong. They learned how the Redoubt, regarded as one of the strongest positions along the defence line, was nevertheless captured within a short period, illustrating the challenges faced by the defending forces. By examining wartime structures, historical artefacts and medals, students gained a deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s wartime history and the human experiences behind military conflicts. The visit brought history to life and enhanced students’ appreciation of local heritage.
