Principal’s message 2025 – 2026
Every year, I receive the same question from parents: What makes your school different from others in Yuen Long?
My answer has become clearer with each passing year. While many schools focus primarily on helping students achieve the highest scores, we believe in nurturing every aspect of Massians. Our whole-person approach means that Massians do not have to choose between being scholarly and creative; each strength instead supports the other. This philosophy shapes everything we do.
Let me share what this has helped us achieve. Academically, our stellar student Hung Long Yiu achieved two 5**, one 5*, and three Level 5s in the 2025 HKDSE. Equally remarkable is Lam Yan Ching, who received two 5**. Across the school, three subjects exceeded Hong Kong's Level 5** average and twelve subjects surpassed the Level 5 average across Hong Kong. These results prove that our academic foundation remains rock-solid.
But that only tells part of our story. Our English debate team secured the first runner-up position in both the UNSDGs Debating Competition 2024-2025 and the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition 2024-2025. In sports, Massians have captured multiple awards in prestigious competitions, including the Inter-school Basketball Competition and the Inter-school Handball Competition. In music, we have received gold awards in competitions such as the Joint School Music Competition 2025 and Bellprints International Handbell Competition. These achievements — spanning logical argumentation, athletic prowess, and musical excellence — showcase the remarkable breadth of talent we develop, making us a school where excellence has many faces, all equally celebrated.
This year also brought new initiatives that take our whole-person development to new depths. We have introduced VIA Character Strengths, helping students identify, understand and develop their unique character traits — from creativity and curiosity to perseverance and leadership. In particular, our Character Strengths Cabin has taken the spotlight. Students and teachers bring in items that represent different strengths, sparking meaningful conversations about what these qualities look like in daily life. This innovative space makes character development tangible and personal, transforming abstract values into concrete, experiential realities.
We have also established the Student Advancement Committee, which identifies and nurtures the hidden potential of Massians. We do not just seek the obvious leaders, but also the quiet thinkers and the thoughtful innovators. With this dedicated committee, I am confident that we will help every Massian thrive, not just those who naturally step forward.
I will not pretend our approach is easy. It requires teachers who volunteer their time to coach talents. It demands students who dare to risk imperfection. It needs parents who provide support during competitions. Is it challenging? Yes. But every year, as I watch Massians graduate — confident, accomplished, and prepared for university and beyond — I have no doubts. We are giving them tools for life, not just for examinations.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to supporting each Massian’s growth. Together, let’s make this another year where our students embark on their journey of success.
